Britches

BRITCHES St. Louis, MO

Britches formed in mid-2009 molding a thick, milky pile of noise into coherent and sharp compositions. This is a noise-rock band that performs with post-rock intentions. The use of spacing and carefully set thresholds of shrill sound is characteristic of each piece.

The use of repetition carries you along the drone, but there is an x-factor that keeps the listener's ear perked for every song.

Press

"A chopped and screwed apocalypse: Blood-soaked guitars match wits with faded vocal howls and twitching synth spasms. The death sweats of early Sonic Youth and Xiu Xiu's skeletal noise sculptures are a starting touchstone, but the trio skillfully uses silence and restraint to magnify the dread of its chaotic moments."
by Annie Zaleski | Eleven Local Artists You Need to Know in 2011 | Riverfronttimes.com

"The mumurs are audible: Britches is gaining steam in St. Louis. The three piece put on furry animal mascot masks and played leering songs spelled by tense noise and then joined by it, Bottle Opener's demon-doubled vocals adding to the funhouse of horrors feel."
by Keirnan Maletsky | Marnie Stern at the Firebird, 7/6/11 | Riverfronttimes.com

"There is something that you can't put your finger on -- maybe it's the childish/fetishist headgear, the keen edge of absurd humor and movement (bassist Bryant Hoban hunches in a bounce like a monkey), the seamlessness of their set (each song is joined by a wordless, crunching soundscape like crepitus'd joints), and the strong emotional undercurrent of something-is-wrong flowing through all the songs. Their music cut through a lot of the empty space that exists at the beginning of any show, the sparseness of their arrangements and brittleness of their sound drawing in anyone who did get there on time."
by Mike Herr | Britches, Yowie, Gnarwhal and Marnie Stern bring the noise (and much more) | KDHX.org

"Britches plays down-tempo, dissonant rock tunes featuring distant vocals and reverb soaked guitars. Although they are clearly indebted to Animal Collective, these guys are not scared to bare their teeth, scream a lot, and tear the shit out of their guitars and vocal chords. Fans of droney and noisy experimental music will dig this band."
